About Us

Paarl Junior Town Council was founded in 1984 by Mrs Brenda Pagel – a lady far ahead of her time…

In 2018 Paarl JTC was registered as an NPO and a board of directors was instituted to guide the executive committee and the committee leaders of the six committees. Each committee exists of one learner from each high school in order to keep the schools informed on all levels. The committee leaders organise and coordinate activities pertaining to their portfolios, namely Advocacy, Ecology, Fundraising, Media, Sport and Recreation and Outreach. The different committees regularly work together on projects, combining theirs strengths and efforts.

The whole council meets every fortnight, and the leaders every alternative week. These meetings are scheduled for Wednesday evenings and the language in which it is conducted alternates between Afrikaans and English. Additional committee meetings are scheduled for afternoons, dependent on learners’ commitments. Projects are also fitted in during the week and on Saturdays. During the exams there are no formal meetings, but informal get-togethers are necessary at times.

Over the years the structure and activities may have been revised, but one value still rings true: We aim to serve this town.
